Speech at NYC Gracie Mansion

Speech at NYC Gracie Mansion

The Moment Standing at the podium at Gracie Mansion—the “People’s House” of New York City—Marie Mirville-Shahzada brought the voice of Assembly District 46 directly to the city’s highest leadership. As a proud Black Muslim woman and the daughter of Haitian and Dominican immigrants, Marie’s presence on this stage was a powerful testament to the diversity and strength of our community.

The Message In her remarks, Marie spoke from the heart about the challenges and triumphs of working families in Brooklyn. She emphasized that true leadership means ensuring that every community has a seat at the table.

  • Celebrating Diversity: She highlighted the vital contributions of our immigrant neighbors and the need for a district where cultural heritage is respected and protected.

  • Fighting for the Overlooked: Marie used this platform to remind city officials that behind every policy decision are real families—seniors struggling with rent, parents fighting for special needs services, and youth looking for opportunity.

  • A Call for Unity: She urged leaders to move beyond division and focus on the shared values of safety, dignity, and compassion that bind all New Yorkers together.

Marie’s Stance Representation is more than just a photo op—it is about advocacy. Marie proved once again that she is unafraid to speak truth to power and will go anywhere to ensure the families of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Coney Island are heard.

I want people to remember that I led with compassion, fairness, and a deep commitment to every family. A district where everyone—no matter their story—has safety, dignity, and real access to opportunity.
