The Mission In a district as diverse as ours, too many families struggle in silence—unsure of where to turn for help with an aging parent or a child with disabilities. Marie Mirville-Shahzada knows that true “access” means more than just having services available; it means having trusted community partners who speak your language and understand your culture.
Empowering the Community Marie visited Alfadila Community Services, a vital local organization that has become a lifeline for immigrants and seniors in our district. This event, “Bringing Disability Awareness to All,” highlighted the specific barriers that non-English speaking families often face when navigating the complex healthcare and social service systems.
Impact by the Numbers During her visit, Marie shined a spotlight on the incredible, measurable work being done right here in our neighborhood:
Supporting Seniors: Alfadila has assisted over 450 elders in accessing critical HRA services and care.
Disability Advocacy: They have provided direct aid to over 425 individuals and families living with disabilities.
Essential Nutrition: The organization has coordinated 1,200+ food deliveries of hot meals and groceries to those homebound.
Marie’s Stance “We cannot claim to be a successful district if our most vulnerable neighbors are left behind,” Marie stated. She is committed to fighting for increased government funding for grassroots organizations like Alfadila that bridge the gap between state resources and the families who need them most.
Protecting our most vulnerable—our children, parents, and seniors—is always my first priority. Organizations like Alfadila are the heart of this work, ensuring that dignity and care reach every doorstep, regardless of the language you speak.
